Drone strikes and missile waves on 5 December 2022

Summary

A look back at a day of attacks on Russian air bases and on Ukrainian homes and power supplies.

What did the war look like on 5 December 2022? It was a day of strikes in both directions, far from the front line.

Russia said a long-range drone attack hit two of its air bases, Dyagilevo and Engels-2. According to Russia, three servicemen were killed and four others injured, and two aircraft were damaged.

On the same day, Russian forces launched another wave of cruise missile strikes on Ukraine. In Zaporizhzhia Oblast, the strikes destroyed homes and killed two people. Damage to critical infrastructure also caused power outages in many other areas of the country.

Taken together, the two reports show the day's pattern: a claimed attack deep inside Russian territory, and continued missile strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure, with civilians bearing the consequences in Zaporizhzhia Oblast and beyond.
