What was known by 5 September 2025 about the killing of Andriy Parubiy? Days earlier, on 30 August 2025, the sitting member of parliament and former speaker of the Verkhovna Rada had been shot dead in Lviv. He was 54.
The attack took place at around 10:35 am local time on Yefremov Street. As reported at the time, the gunman was unknown, and a manhunt for the suspect was under way in Lviv Oblast.
The search did not last long. By 1 September, a suspect had been arrested in Khmelnytskyi Oblast.
By 5 September, then, the case had moved from a manhunt to an arrest, with a suspect in custody days after the shooting in the western city.
Parubiy had held the post of speaker of the Ukrainian parliament and was still a sitting member of parliament when he was killed. The shooting of a figure of that standing in Lviv was reported as an assassination.
