What the strikes of early October 2025 showed

Summary

A look back at two cross-border attacks reported just before 10 October 2025, in Belgorod Oblast and in Sumy.

What was the toll of the cross-border strikes reported in the days leading up to 10 October 2025? Two incidents, both dated 8 October 2025, give a picture of harm on each side of the frontier.

In Russia's Belgorod Oblast, a Ukrainian missile strike on Maslova Pristan killed three people and injured nine others, as reported at the time. A search and rescue operation was under way for further people believed to be trapped under rubble.

In Ukraine, a drone strike hit a house in Sumy, in Sumy Oblast. A family was injured, including a 4-year-old girl who was in critical condition. Dozens of civilian infrastructure facilities in the city were also damaged. The attack came during the 2025 Sumy offensive, amid Russian strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure.

Taken together, the two reports show civilians hurt and buildings damaged in border regions on both sides of the war, with rescue work and medical care continuing in the immediate aftermath.
