Belarus–Poland border: what happened by 9 November 2021

Summary
A look back at the days of rising tension on the Belarus–Poland frontier in early November 2021.
What was happening on the Belarus–Poland border on 9 November 2021? By then, a week of escalation had turned the frontier into a security flashpoint.
On 3 November 2021, Poland summoned the Belarusian chargé d'affaires after Belarusian troops crossed into Polish territory overnight. A Polish government spokesman said the Belarusian personnel advanced 300 metres into Poland and returned across the border only when a Polish patrol confronted them.
On 8 November 2021, a large crowd of migrants, escorted by the Belarusian military, tried to break through the border near Bruzgi in the Grodno Region. Several migrants were reported dead: seven were found on the Polish side, and a few more deaths were reported in Belarus.
The two episodes were part of what was described as the 2021 Belarus–European Union border crisis. The first was a military incursion handled through diplomatic protest. The second involved large numbers of people and fatalities. Together they showed a frontier where armed personnel and migrants were both present, and where Poland was responding on its side of the line.
