What happened on the Ukraine and Poland frontiers

Summary

Two reports from late October 2021 described a drone's first combat use in eastern Ukraine and a troop increase on the Polish border.

What did two reports published days before 28 October 2021 show about security along the region's borders and front lines?

On 26 October 2021, a first combat use of the Turkish-made Bayraktar reconnaissance-strike drone system was reported in the area of the Joint Forces Operation in Ukraine.

The same day, Poland increased the number of soldiers deployed on its border with Belarus from 6,000 to about 10,000. The aim, as reported, was to prevent further illegal crossings by Middle Eastern migrants, who were being flown in by the Belarusian government. The surge followed an incident over the preceding weekend, when two border guards were hospitalised after a group of 70 migrants stormed a section of the border.

Both developments were part of the regional picture as of 28 October 2021.
