Front-line visit and fighting
On 5 June, Zelensky said in his evening address that he had visited troops on the front line at the boundary of the Luhansk and Donetsk regions, including in Lysychansk and Soledar. He said he was proud of everyone he had met, shaken hands with and supported.
The same day, Russian forces pushed towards Bila Krynytsia, which Ukrainian forces had recently retaken. Oleksandr Vilkul, head of the military administration, said Russian units had returned to positions they had previously held.
Forecasts and food diplomacy
Speaking on 4 June at the GLOBSEC-2022 forum in Bratislava, Slovakia, Defence Minister Oleksii Reznikov said it was hard to predict when the war would end, but that his optimistic forecast was that it could finish by the end of the year.
On 3 June in Sochi, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Senegal's president, Macky Sall, discussed the food and grain crisis caused by Russia's blocking of Ukrainian grain, along with economic and humanitarian cooperation, the Kremlin reported.
