The day Washington announced HIMARS for Ukraine

Summary
A look back at the US military aid announcement of 31 May 2022 and a change of government in Transnistria the day before.
What did Washington decide on 31 May 2022, and how was it received? On that date, US President Biden announced that the United States would send Ukraine its 11th package of military assistance. The package included more advanced rocket systems and munitions, among them High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems, known as HIMARS.
According to the announcement, the systems were meant to help Ukraine strike key targets with greater precision. NATO said it did not expect Russia to take any corresponding action in response to the decision.
A separate change in Transnistria
The day before, on 30 May 2022, Aleksandr Rozenberg was sworn in as the new Prime Minister of Transnistria, a development in the region's politics.
The two events were reported separately. The aid package and NATO's assessment of Russia's likely reaction were the main developments of 31 May 2022.
