What did Washington's $40bn Ukraine package contain?

Summary
A look back at the US aid law signed days before 24 May 2022, and the Senate vote that preceded it.
What had Washington committed to Ukraine by 24 May 2022? By that date, the answer was a $40 billion package that had cleared Congress and become law.
On 19 May 2022, the US Senate voted 86–11 to pass the legislation, sending it to President Joe Biden for his signature. He signed it on 21 May 2022.
What the law covered
The bill provided military and economic aid for Ukraine. It also set aside money to replenish stocks of US equipment that had been sent to Ukraine, and to fund operations of the US European Command.
A further element addressed the global food crisis, placing part of the package beyond the battlefield and the Ukrainian budget.
The margin
The 86–11 Senate tally showed a wide majority in favour. The president's signature on 21 May 2022, two days after the vote, completed the process, so the funding was in law by 24 May 2022.
