Kremenchuk mall strike and the G7 response

Summary
A look back at a day when missiles hit a crowded shopping centre in central Ukraine while G7 leaders pledged further support to Kyiv.
What did the world's leaders offer Ukraine on the day a crowded shopping mall was struck? The events of 27 June 2022, reported as the focus of attention on 28 June 2022, set a diplomatic pledge beside a mass-casualty attack.
The strike in Kremenchuk
On 27 June 2022, two missiles hit a crowded mall in the city of Kremenchuk. Initial reports said at least 13 people were killed and at least 50 injured. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said more than a thousand people were inside at the time.
Later accounts gave a higher toll. According to that later description, the Russian Armed Forces fired two Kh-22 cruise missiles into central Kremenchuk, in Poltava Oblast. They hit the Kredmash road machinery plant and the adjacent Amstor shopping mall, and a fire broke out. The attack killed at least 20 people and injured at least 59. Russian media and officials carried conflicting stories about it.
The G7 pledge
The same day, leaders at the 48th G7 summit in Germany issued a statement promising more financial, humanitarian, military and diplomatic support to Ukraine. The statement followed a video message from Zelenskyy, who had called on allies for more heavy weapons.
Putin abroad
A day earlier, on 26 June 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin began a foreign trip to Tajikistan and Turkmenistan. It was his first trip abroad since the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Taken together, these reports show a Ukrainian leadership pressing allies for heavy weapons, allied leaders pledging wider support, and a strike on a civilian site in Kremenchuk that drew attention to the human cost of the war.
