Drone strikes and missile waves on 5 December 2022

Summary

A look back at a day when Russia reported losses at two air bases and launched another cruise missile wave on Ukraine.

What happened on 5 December 2022, when strikes hit both sides of the front line? Russia said a long-range drone attack had targeted two of its air bases, while its own forces launched another wave of cruise missiles on Ukraine.

Russia said the drone attack on the Dyagilevo and Engels-2 air bases killed three servicemen and injured four others. It also said two aircraft were damaged.

The same day, Russian forces fired another wave of cruise missiles at Ukraine. In Zaporizhzhia Oblast the strikes destroyed homes and killed two people. Damage to critical infrastructure caused power outages in many other areas.

The two events, as reported at the time, showed attacks reaching deep into territory on both sides, with Ukrainian infrastructure again among the targets.
