Sweden's Archer pledge and Kyiv's helicopter crash

Summary
A look back at 19 January 2023, when Stockholm detailed a new military package for Ukraine a day after a deadly helicopter crash near Kyiv.
What did Ukraine's partners pledge, and what had Ukraine just lost, on 19 January 2023? The day brought a new Swedish military support package, announced against the background of a crash that had killed much of the leadership of Ukraine's interior ministry.
Sweden's package
On 19 January 2023, Swedish Defence Minister Pål Jonson announced that Sweden would send its self-propelled Archer Artillery System to Ukraine. The package also included 50 Combat Vehicle 90 infantry fighting vehicles and NLAW anti-tank missiles. It was described as Sweden's latest military support for the Ukrainian military.
Canada's armoured vehicles
The Swedish announcement followed another pledge a day earlier. On 18 January 2023, during a visit to Kyiv, Canadian National Defence Minister Anita Anand said Canada would send 200 Roshel Senator armoured personnel carriers to Ukraine.
The Brovary crash
The same 18 January was marked by a helicopter crash in Brovary, in Kyiv Oblast. Fourteen people were killed and 25 others were injured. Among the dead were Interior Minister Denys Monastyrsky, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Yevhen Yenin and State Secretary of Internal Affairs Yurii Lubkovych.
Taken together, the two days set military assistance from abroad alongside a loss at the top of Ukraine's interior ministry.
