What happened on 24 January 2024, and what had come just before it? The day brought a reported crash of a Russian military transport aircraft in Russia's Korochansky District, near the Ukrainian border.
The aircraft was an Ilyushin Il-76. It was reported to have been carrying 65 Ukrainian prisoners of war, six crew members and three guards. Everyone on board was reported killed. The claims had not been independently verified.
The previous day
On 23 January 2024, Russian missile strikes on Kyiv and Kharkiv killed six civilians and injured at least 77 others. Ukraine said it had shot down 21 of the 41 missiles launched.
