Kyiv under missile fire as Moscow targets a US senator

Summary
A look back at 29 May 2023, when Russian missiles struck the Ukrainian capital and a Russian ministry issued a warrant for Lindsey Graham.
What did Russia's war look like on 29 May 2023? In Kyiv, it meant another attack from the air, a day after a drone assault that Ukrainian authorities described as a record. In Moscow, it meant a legal move aimed at an American lawmaker.
On 29 May 2023, Russian forces struck Kyiv with Iskander ballistic and cruise missiles. Debris injured one civilian and damaged infrastructure. Ukraine said it had shot down all of the missiles.
The strike followed the attack of 28 May 2023, when two people were killed and three others injured in what was called a record drone attack on the capital. Ukrainian authorities said they had shot down 52 of the 54 drones.
The same day, the Russian Interior Ministry issued an arrest warrant for United States Senator Lindsey Graham. The warrant concerned comments Graham had made about the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Two fronts, one message
Taken together, the events of those two days showed pressure applied in two ways: on Ukrainian civilians and infrastructure through missiles and drones, and on Western political voices through Russian legal action. Kyiv's air defences reported near-complete interception on both days, while the human toll of the 28 May attack stood at two dead and three wounded.
