Russia's wanted list adds Khodorkovsky after missile barrage

Summary
A look back at 9 January 2024, when Moscow listed an exiled tycoon and Ukraine counted the cost of a large air attack.
What did Russia do on 9 January 2024, a day after one of its large missile and drone assaults on Ukraine? It placed exiled tycoon Mikhail Khodorkovsky on a wanted list over comments he had made about the ongoing war.
The listing came as Ukraine was assessing the attack launched on 8 January 2024. As reported at the time, Russia fired missiles and drones across the country. At least four people were killed and 38 others injured in Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Khmelnytskyi and Zaporizhzhia Oblasts.
Ukraine said its air defences shot down all eight drones launched in the attack. It also said they destroyed 18 of the 51 missiles.
The two developments, a strike on Ukrainian infrastructure and a legal move against a prominent exile, were separate events. Both showed how the war was being pursued on 9 January 2024: through force in Ukraine and through pressure on critics of it.
