Two Ukrainian stories before 2 September 2019
Summary
A boxing victory and a deadly building collapse marked the final days of August 2019 in Ukraine.
What did Ukraine's news look like on 2 September 2019? Two events from the preceding days stood out, one of triumph and one of loss.
On 31 August 2019, Vasyl Lomachenko beat Britain's Luke Campbell. He kept his world lightweight titles from the WBA, WBO and The Ring, and he also won the vacant WBC lightweight title.
Three days earlier, on 28 August 2019, a four-storey residential building collapsed in Drohobych, in the Lviv region. Eight people died.
The two events were unrelated, but together they show how varied the news from Ukraine was at the turn of the month: a sporting success abroad and a fatal accident at home.
