What did 4 April 2018 bring for Kyiv?

Summary

A look back at an arrest over a 2017 attack in Kyiv and a new aviation accord with Turkey.

What happened in Ukraine on 4 April 2018? Two developments stood out: an arrest linked to a deadly attack in Kyiv, and a new agreement with Turkey.

Authorities in Ukraine announced the arrest of a suspected terrorist in connection with a 2017 attack in Kyiv. The attack killed two people and wounded three, including the MP Ihor Mosiychuk.

On the same day, Ukraine and Turkey signed an agreement to improve aviation co-operation.

The day before

On 3 April 2018, the Verkhovna Rada rejected two bills that would have abolished e-declaration for civic activists: presidential bill No. 6674 and deputies' bill No. 6271.

The same day, in the wider region, Russian MPs called for sanctions against Latvia. They were responding to plans to make Latvian mandatory for all secondary-school students in a country that is a quarter ethnic Russian.
