Three days after the killing of Andriy Parubiy

Summary
A look back at 3 September 2025 and what was known about the shooting of the former parliamentary speaker in Lviv.
What did the picture look like on 3 September 2025, three days after Andriy Parubiy was shot dead in Lviv?
Parubiy, a sitting member of parliament and a former speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, was killed on 30 August 2025. As reported at the time, an unknown gunman carried out the attack, and a manhunt for the suspect began in Lviv Oblast.
The attack
Parubiy was 54. The shooting took place at around 10:35 am local time on Yefremov Street in Lviv.
The suspect
The search did not last long. By 1 September, a suspect had been arrested in Khmelnytskyi Oblast. By 3 September, then, the gunman was no longer unknown, and the focus had shifted from the manhunt to the questions that follow an arrest in a killing of this kind.
The killing of a serving lawmaker who had previously led parliament was a significant shock for Ukrainian politics. The speed of the arrest, within about two days of the shooting, set the tone for how the case was followed in the days that came after.
