Who replaced Shmyhal as Ukraine's prime minister?

Summary

A look back at the parliamentary vote that put Yulia Svyrydenko at the head of Ukraine's government.

Who was running Ukraine's government by the morning of 18 July 2025? The answer had changed the previous day. On 17 July 2025, the Verkhovna Rada approved Yulia Svyrydenko as prime minister.

Svyrydenko succeeded Denys Shmyhal, who had led the cabinet until then. The vote in the Ukrainian parliament completed the handover of the premiership, so the next day, 18 July 2025, opened with a new head of government in place.

The appointment was a parliamentary decision: the Rada, as the legislature, confirmed the nominee and thereby settled who would lead the cabinet. That is the core of what happened on 17 July, and it set the starting point for the government that Svyrydenko would lead from then on.
