What happened in Ukraine's war on 8 October 2024?

Summary

A look back at strikes on Feodosia, Odesa and Sloviansk reported in the days around 8 October 2024.

What was the picture on 8 October 2024, as reports of the previous day's attacks emerged? Strikes on civilian and economic targets were reported across Ukraine and in occupied Crimea.

Crimea: fire at an oil terminal

As reported on 7 October 2024, an oil terminal in Feodosia, described as the largest oil facility in Russian-occupied Crimea, caught fire after an overnight drone attack by Ukrainian forces. Russian state media reported that a state of emergency had been declared in Feodosia because of a "human-made disaster".

Odesa: ships hit in port

On 7 October 2024, Russian missiles struck two cargo ships in the Port of Odesa. One was a Palau-flagged vessel carrying grain. A port worker was killed and five crew members were injured.

Donetsk Oblast: shelling in Sloviansk

Also on 7 October 2024, Russian shelling hit several apartment buildings in Sloviansk, Donetsk Oblast. One person was killed and six others, including two children, were injured.

Taken together, the reports from that period show fighting reaching a Crimean fuel facility, a southern port handling grain shipments and residential districts in the east.
