What happened in Ukraine's war on 10 February 2026?

Summary

A retrospective on a strike on Sloviansk and the fighting and attacks reported in the days just before it.

What did the war look like on 10 February 2026? On that date, a Russian airstrike on Sloviansk, in Donetsk Oblast, killed two people, one of several attacks on civilians reported in the preceding days.

The strike followed a large-scale Russian attack on 9 February 2026, in which drones and ballistic missiles were launched at Ukraine. At least six people were killed, including a 10-year-old boy and his mother in Kharkiv, and dozens more were injured.

Fighting near Kupiansk

On 9 February 2026, Russian troops also launched a mechanised assault east of Kupiansk and captured the towns of Petropavlivka and Stepova Novoselivka. The assault belonged to the wider Kupiansk offensive, a series of engagements around the city and along the Oskil river in Kharkiv Oblast. Russian forces had restarted operations there after attacking Kupiansk in late November 2024, and the offensive intensified after they established several bridgeheads on the western bank of the Oskil in early 2025.

A case in Russia

Separately, on 8 February 2026, a 65-year-old man accused of shooting and critically injuring lieutenant general Vladimir Alekseyev on 6 February was detained in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and deported to Moscow.
