Flamingo missiles and Karpivka: 21 February 2026

Summary
A look back at a day of Ukrainian long-range strikes inside Russia and a Russian advance towards Lyman.
What did the fighting look like on 21 February 2026? Reports from that day pointed to action on two very different fronts: deep strikes inside Russia and a ground advance in Donetsk Oblast.
Ukrainian forces launched long-range FP-5 Flamingo cruise missiles, according to reports at the time. One struck the Votkinsk Machine Building Plant in Votkinsk, in Russia's Udmurtia region. Another missile hit a natural-gas processing plant in Samara Oblast.
On the eastern front, Russian forces captured the village of Karpivka in Donetsk Oblast. They were attempting to advance towards Lyman.
The preceding day
The previous day, 20 February 2026, had also brought Ukrainian strikes on occupied territory. Drone attacks on Sevastopol in Crimea killed one person and damaged several buildings.
Taken together, the reports from 20 and 21 February showed Ukrainian forces using drones and long-range missiles against targets in Crimea and in Russia, while Russian forces continued to make ground gains in Donetsk Oblast.
