A day earlier, on 1 June 2020, two earthquakes struck the Ivano-Frankivsk region, with their epicentre near the town of Dolyna. The magnitudes were 3.2 and 2.7. No casualties were reported.

The two events were unrelated. Both were reported in the days just before 3 June 2020: one involved police detentions after gunfire at a market, the other a pair of minor tremors that caused no harm.
