What did early August 2021 reveal about security?

Summary
Two reports from the first week of August 2021 showed violence at the margins of Ukrainian public life, in Kyiv and in the occupied east.
What was the picture of security in Ukraine on 10 August 2021? Two reports from the preceding days offered a sobering answer.
On 4 August 2021, police in Kyiv arrested a man with a grenade who had entered the Cabinet of Ministers building and threatened to detonate it. The reported outcome was an arrest in the capital's government quarter.
Two days later, on 6 August 2021, came news from the so-called DNR. Three prisoners were killed in a prison there in circumstances that remained unknown. Among them was Yevhen Sotnikov, who had been convicted of murder. He was a Ukrainian judoka and Honoured Master of Sport, a medallist at world and European championships and a participant in the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
The two reports were unrelated, and nothing in them links the cases. Together, though, they mark a week in which a threat reached the seat of government in Kyiv and a former sports figure died in a prison in the occupied territory.
